I am a pediatric physiotherapist and I can attest that it's possible for the parent to help with bronchial congestion in addition to physiotherapy sessions.

Bronchiolitis is characterized by a lung congestion, particularly in the bronchioles, which are small bronchi further away than the large bronchi.

To explain another way, the bronchioles are more used when baby runs out of breath, gets tired, moves more.

If baby is exhausted, does not play or smile, the parent cannot do much other than effective blowing morning and evening, at least.

If the baby is in good health despite the illness, the parent will be able to have moments of laughter/giggling with the baby.

Play with baby

By trying to make the laughter last as long as possible and be repetitive, this will make the baby out of breath and therefore drain the stagnant mucus in the bronchioles will drain and evacuate. Indeed, stagnation can lead to secondary infection. He will then cough, which is a sign that the drainage has been effective.

In case of baby bronchiolitis

Caution when blowing your nose:

- use of single-use pipettes, at least 2 are necessary, or more until a clear (non-yellow) nose is obtained

Single-use pipettes for baby blowing

- If using a syringe, boiling water must be used to disinfect the syringe between each use. And drying. So I advise you to have at least 2!

Here is a video that can show you how to blow baby's nose effectively:

When baby knows how to walk and/or run, take him for a walk, and if he has the energy to run, it will be a perfect breather and will help declutter!
